Dear Mrs. Intawiwat,
To begin I would like to thank you for all that you have taught me during my first year in college. You are an amazing teacher and I am so happy that you were the one to officially teach me the most important things involved with English. I never thought that I would be able to say that about an English teacher. Throughout this semester alone with the way blogs 1, 2 and 3 were set up I have learned enhanced many of the skills I already had.
With blog 1 I learned how to better organize my opinions and persuade a person to view my opinion as better than their own. Blog one was a great way for me to find out what in pop culture that I truly cared about. There were plenty of things that I found important but with this assignment I had the opportunity to choose something that was important and fun; tattoos. Many people have negative views about tattoos and I tried and I believe succeeded to change that in my papers. I had to use more of my brain power to figure out how to convince a person that tattoos were fine. Critical thinking skills were a must for this blog.
The transformation of blog one to blog two was a little more of a challenge because in high school I was not a very good researcher and I found it boring. Now I understand the importance of researching and understand that if I am researching something that I find interesting I am actually very good at it. My research skills improved because I learned to find what was important and what was not important at all. Avoiding plagiarism and unbiased texts were hard to do because many of the things sited were facts and a lot of other sites were either more religiously based saying that tattoos and other body modifications were wrong. When I did research for this topic I had to mainly look up the safety, history, and the legal aspects of tattooing.
Blog 3 was by far the most difficult thing we have done in this class. I realized that doing annotated bibliographies are the hardest thing to do in an English class. More research was needed to find information about the author and if they are known in their field of expertise. I know that doing annotated bibliographies can help me in future classes when I have to research specific medicines or anytime throughout my future in college or medical school. This assignment helped me to more understand if the information I have is reliable.
Finally the multimodal project was the most fun of all. It allowed me to get creative which I absolutely love doing. This gave a different twist to your English class which I appreciate. I never have had a class that makes me make a different type of genre out of a piece of writing. This helps reach more people because not everyone reads papers for fun.
Throughout this class you have showed us multiple ways as to how writing and everything else we do is a process. We had to learn how to communicate with people in different ways. Throughout blog 2 we had to provide proof on how we would convince everyone that our topics were worthy and for the multimodal project we had to develop the different forms to communicate with people. For each blog we had to review and revise each and that helped us make each blog the better. My participation in this class improved greatly from last semester. I have been more vocal in the class and because of that I have been able to succeed more. During the presentations I was able to speak in front of the class and feel more comfortable with it now. Thank you Mrs. Intawiwat for helping me be successful in this class and future classes. You are the greatest.
Sincerely,
China M. Diamond.
